The Needlework of Oscar Topsfield by Hands Across the Sea Samplers

Oscar Topsfield, born in 1892, was 12 years old when he stitched this sampler.  While it looks as though it has been stitched with variegated thread, it actually uses nine different thread colours.  It is stitched in cross stitch over 2 threads of linen.
